MARKETING AND BRANDING
Marketing is a process that causes revenue opportunities to land at your doorstep. It may be that such opportunity comes from community awareness of your presence in the market and thus your offerings to the potential buyers in that market. Marketing consists of communications in all forms – online in the form of websites, blogs, articles, RSS feeds, iPod downloads, video clips, and even online book and magazine sites.
There is a difference between marketing and branding. A well-known explanation of this is often found in advertising circles and goes like this: "If a young man tells his date she's intelligent, looks lovely, and is a great conversationalist, he's saying the right things to the right person and that's marketing. If the young man tells his date how handsome, smart and successful he is -- that's advertising. If someone else tells the young woman how handsome, smart and successful her date is -- that's public relations."
Branding in its purest form is not your logo or company colors or company name. Branding is the sum total of your customer’s experience of you as a company providing a product or service and how well you take care of your customers when they most need it. Simply put branding can be defined in three layers:
- The first and most important consideration of branding is WHY you are doing what you’re doing.
- The second most important consideration of branding is HOW you do what you do for your customers.
- The third and least important consideration is WHAT you do for your customers.
