Blog Scripting

BLOG SCRIPTING

A blog is a web log. It is an online, regularly updated journal or newsletter that is readily accessible to the general public by virtue of being posted on a website. Blogs typically report and comment on topics of interest to the author, (not necessarily the public or any targeted audience) and are usually written and posted using software specifically designed to facilitate blogging; they may include hyperlinks to other websites and, often, photos, video clips, and the like. The most recent entry by the blogger is posted at the beginning of the blog, with earlier entries following in reverse chronological order; comments and other responses to the blog by readers are often posted after each entry.

As of January, 2009 there were an estimated 133 million blogs online globally. Blogs are places on the Internet where people can write and publish just about any content they wish. With about seven billion people on planet Earth and over 50% of them under the age of 30 there’s no end in sight for blogs. Blogs entertain, inform, inspire, teach, motivate, criticize, call for public action, or just ramble on about nothing at all.

Even so, such content is largely unimportant to 99.9% of people who have access to that blog unless they have a special interest in the content. As a result, most blogs are unknown to most people. Blogs have to be promoted just like any other content sources. Thus even a blog has to have a marketing strategy – in spite of the fact that the blog itself is part of a marketing strategy.

The best thing about a blog is that it can communicate any level of information desired to be let out to the world at large or to a specifically targeted audience. Why would any company want such a communications tool? A few of the more important answers include:

  • Investor updates
  • New product or service introductions
  • Customer training
  • Public relations / damage control
  • Political updates
  • Business updates
  • News stories (many are breaking stories)
  • Matters of public interest
  • Notices or alerts
  • Critical reviews

Many blogs are interactive and allow readers to respond and engage in online conversations called chats. In summary, creating a blog is easy to do but populating it with content you are ready for anyone and everyone to read is something else. Blog scripting is a writer’s science that works much like the creation of a press release. You want it to be right and to contain only the information you want shared. PSI can help with such scripting and manage the publication of the same.
